Electric Guitar Progress

After almost 2 months of procrastinating, I finally got some work done on the electric guitar I'm building.

See also the previous posts Electric Guitar Progress and Electric Guitar Sketch.

I had to adjust the walnut top so that the pickups I bought would sit at the right height.
The lower pickup is meant for a curved top, so it has an angle built into the bottom.  I notched out the walnut so that it will now sit level.
The upper pickup was too low, so I built a separate piece to raise it up.
I broke this piece as I was trying to screw the pickup onto it, which is why you see the green masking tape clamping it together until the glue dries.

The bottom face of the walnut top is not level at all, so I mixed up some of the walnut sawdust that I saved for this purpose and some wood glue, and smeared it all over, filling in some of the low spots, and then clamped it all down tight.
I'm hoping I get a nice solid join.  I'll leave it overnight to set up.

Next up, finish shaping the neck, tidy up the heel join as it is a bit sloppy, route a groove down the center for the truss rod, fit the maple fretboard...etc.  Still a ways to go yet.

It would be nice to finish it up before the East Coast Guitar Festival at the end of April.  Not likely though.  It took me 5 years to finish my violin!
