Sailboat Sketch - Dorothea

I went to a Poppy Balser art show opening in Chester yesterday.  She's one of my favorite artists.  I heard about the show months ago and I thought that I would love to go but a) I would probably forget about it by the time it came up, and b) it was on a Thursday evening so I probably wouldn't make a special trip to Chester just for the show.

But it worked out that I happened to be going to Lunenburg on Thursday for work (ok, I planned it for Thursday with the gallery show specifically in mind), and I stopped by the show on my way home.

After watching the boat races in the Chester Basin and then looking at Poppy's awesome sailboat paintings, I was itching to do a sailboat sketch this morning.

This is one of the Nova Scotia Sea School boats sailing in the Halifax Harbour.

This is my little sketching set, on my desk at work; my iPad, a set of markers from the dollar store, and a small pad of paper.  I also used some colored pencils on this one for the sky and the water.

I think that's most of the reason I've been sketching a bit more lately; I've got a cheap set of materials now that I don't mind wasting.  It takes the pressure off a bit.
