Warm Crocheted Hat for Iceland

I've been on vacation for the past 2 weeks in Scotland and Iceland.

I forgot to pack my toque (not something I would normally pack for a June vacation), so I borrowed one while in Scotland, since we were staying with family for that part of the trip.

I got nervous about stopping in Iceland on the way home though without a warm hat, so on our last day in Scotland I went down to the "pound" store and bought some yarn and a crochet hook.

This is what I made.  A simple shaped crocheted hat, with extra thickness added around the ears to make it super cozy and warm.  Turned out to be perfect for Iceland!

Making the pom pom was fun.  I haven't made one since I was a kid, when I had a plastic pom pom making kit.  I forgot how to do it, but Stephen found a you tube video, and I cut a template out of a cereal box.
