Sailboat Oil Painting

I started a sailboat painting a couple of years ago, but I got discouraged and set it aside...a couple different times.

The first time I got discouraged, I wasn't even sure what was wrong with the painting, I just knew that it wasn't working.  I looked at it later and realized that the perspective was all wrong.  The sailboats in the back were way too big considering their position relative to the horizon and to the foreground boats.  It took me a while to figure out how to fix this, but once I did it looked much better.

Then I sanded the paint down a bit and put on a new layer with the perspective fixed.  I was happy.  But then I was discouraged again, because I didn't get around to putting more paint on it that week, and by the end of the week my initial thin coat of paint was already dry.  I like to build up my oil paintings with 3 or 4 layers of paint, each layer put on while the one below is still tacky.  This only works when I have the time, ambition, and discipline to stick with it until it's done.  It didn't happen.

Recently, I decided to give it another go.
Here is my progress so far.

The sky and water are done.  I just need to detail the land and the boats.  I hope I can stick with it this time.  Wish me luck.
